Why is air flow less when A/C filter is installed?

When I have the A/C air filter in (20x20x1), the air flow is very constricted and does not blow strong. When I remove the filter, the air flow immediately is strong.
The filter is not dirty and it is the correct size.

Please help!

Your blower wheel may be dirty, the belt may be slipping, etc. Something's going on in your circulation system that the added static resistance of the filter is enough to noticeably reduce the airflow through your vents.
